Frequently Asked Questions

Read answers to frequently asked questions about the NREL Data Catalog.

Logging In and Dataset Submissions

Only NREL-affiliated users can log in to the Data Catalog. If the log in is taking a long time, please give your browser up to 5 minutes to log in after authentication. If you are receiving an error message, please try clearing your cache or using a different web browser to log in. Chrome and Firefox usually work better than other browsers. If you are still having trouble logging in, please email the Data Catalog team so we can help.

Your dataset will be curated in 1‒2 business days after submission. If your dataset is U.S. Department of Energy -funded and submitted to Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI), the OSTI ID and digital object identifier will be returned in 1-2 additional business days. If the Data Catalog team has any questions, they will reach out to the contact for the record directly before completing curation.

Dataset Hosting

You may submit as many files as you'd like with a single record, up to 5 gigabytes each. We accept most file types in the Data Catalog, except for executable files.

Yes! Simply use the "Add Link" button to include a link to where your file is hosted.

Dataset Statistics and Updates

We use Google Analytics to track page views and downloads for each dataset. Please email the Data Catalog team if you would like statistics.

Once a dataset has been curated, the creator is no longer able to update it in the Data Catalog system. If you need to make any changes to your dataset after it has been curated, whether it is an update to the metadata or the files, email the Data Catalog team.

Specific Dataset Inquiries

The Data Catalog team manages the curation of records and not the datasets themselves. If you have questions about a specific dataset, please email the individual listed as the contact on the record.
